Harold Knighten, Lawrence County ex-chief deputy…Trial to begin April 2

Harold KnightenLAWRENCE COUNTY – Harold Knighten, 43, is accused of misuse of the Lawrence County Sheriff Department’s National Crime Information Center network. Knighten was indicted on August 19 2012 on two counts of fraud due to illegal use of the Law Enforcement Tactical System, a felony in Alabama. He was also indicted on two counts of fraud from the illegal use of the National Crime Information Center System, after a grand jury heard evidence from state investigators.

Knighten’s trial has been set on April 2-4 at the Lawrence County Courthouse in Moulton. Retired Lauderdale County Circuit Judge Leslie Johnson will hear the case and Retired Colbert County District Attorney Gary Alverson will prosecute the case.

Knighten’s attorney Billy Underwood filed a motion in order to have the charges terminated, on the claim that Knighten’s use of the information systems was only for the investigation of a case.
