Harold Gene Dixon, 76, born on May 29, 1948, in Wayne County, Tennessee, passed away on December 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and a deep love for family and nature that will forever be cherished by those who knew him. Having retired from Hassel and Hughes, Harold dedicated his life to work and found joy in the simple pleasures of existence, including getting lost in the great outdoors, nurturing his beautiful garden, and cherishing the antiques he meticulously collected over the years.
Among his many delightful quirks, perhaps the most endearing was his fondness for feeding squirrels, affectionately named Waffles, showcasing the gentle spirit that defined him. Harold’s vibrant personality brought warmth into the hearts of everyone he encountered, making him not just a father, grandfather, and brother but also a treasured friend.
He is survived by his loving children, Tanya Harshbarger, Shannon Dixon, and Michael Dixon, Grandchildren, Cambrea Dixon, Landon Dixon, Colt Harshbarger, Chloe Harshbarger, Cassie Storer, and Kezlie Shifflett, and great-grandchildren, Zoe, Braxton, Jaybin, Noah, Aubrey, Zayden, Harbor, and Wendell, brothers, Willard and Junior Dixon.
Harold is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Verla, whose presence he missed dearly, and was welcomed in heaven by his siblings—Bobby, George, Reba, Margie, Dede, and Joyce. He was the cherished son of Louis J. Dixon and Mary C. Kilburn Dixon.
Visitation will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors located at 993 Hwy. 13, Collinwood, TN, on December 11, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on December 12, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services starting at 1:00 PM.
