Harold Fitzgerald HaywoodHarold Fitzgerald Haywood, age 86, a resident of Roy Sellers Road in Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at his residence.

 

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Terry Peery officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Knob Creek Baptist Church Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the United States Army. A visitation will also be held on Friday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

A native of Maury County, Tennessee, Harold was the son of the late John L. Haywood and the late Irene Galloway Haywood. A proud United States Army veteran, he married Fay Mangrum on September 13, 1963, and they shared a life until her passing on July 24, 2019. Deeply committed to his faith, Harold was an active and devoted member of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church. As a steadfast Christian, he consistently shared his love for Jesus with those around him.

 

Harold’s heart belonged to farming, a passion he pursued his entire career. The patriarch of his family, he held a profound belief in the importance of sharing his ancestral land with his children and grandchildren, ensuring their families were always close. He had a special love for all his neighbors, and after retirement, he developed a unique talent for building chicken coops and birdhouses.

 

Harold is survived by his daughters, Tracy (David) Temes of Columbia, Teresa (Art) Fitzgerald of Columbia, brother, John (Margaret) Haywood of Cornersville, cherished grandsons, Ryan (Sarah) Parks, Cody (Bailey) Fitzgerald, Zachary (Leah) Temes, great grandson, Easton Fitzgerald, special niece, Patricia “Pat” Byers, grandnephew, Isaiah Byers, and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Marion Jean Shaw, Edwina Tapper, Anne Brown, Carolyn Nix, and Patricia West.

 

Pallbearers will be Jeff Nix, Larry Shaw, Jake Shaw, Chris Shaw, Tony West, Fred Tapper, Rob Nelson, James Suarez, and Todd Burchell. Honorary pallbearers will include Noah Burchell, John Parham, Billy McKennon, Kathy Galle, Mike Prehota, Nancy Prehota, Steve Mangrum, Jr., Ed Chambers, Stanley Reed, Tommy Turrentine, Kevin Crutcher, and his church family at West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

 

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Steve Mangrum, Jr. for the special care and compassion shown to Harold and his family during this difficult time.
