Harmon Bernard Hudgens, 88, passed away June 24, 2024, while at home with family. Mr. Hudgens was born in Opp. Alabama to Horace Buchanan and Lois Hudgens. He graduated from Opp High School in 1954. Harmon obtained a B.S. in Industrial Management from the University of Alabama with graduate studies at the University of West Flordia. He was a Civil Affairs School graduate with special training as an arts, monuments and archives officer. With Army sponsorship, he completed courses in underwater archeology and diplomacy from the University of Florida and Florida State University and was discharged as an Army Major. Mr. Hudgens was the Monsanto Purchasing and Stores Manager. He served on the Sand Mountain Plant start up and shut down-disposition team. After retiring from a thirty year career with Monsanto, Mr. Hudgens worked for Wylie Laboratories, Sperry Corporation, and Guntersville Fabrication. He was on the Guntersville Museum Board and active with the Guntersville Historical Society where he served as President for five years. Harmon was in the Guntersville Lions Club and held offices of President and District Secretary. He was a member of the John Rayburn Camp No. 452, Sons of Confederate Veterans. Mr. Hudgens was an active member of the Guntersville First United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board, in various offices, as an usher, sang in the chancel choir and as Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed reading, hunting, public speaking, story telling, singing, marching band music, woodworking, and cooking. Mr. Hudgens is survived by his wife of sixty five years Eleanor Hudgens of Guntersville, Alabama and their children John Hudgens (Lara) and Sharon Hudgens Glenn (Alan) of Guntersville, and grandchildren Austin Glenn, M.D. (Hannah) of Nashville, TN, and Abigail Glenn of Atlanta, GA.
