Hanson Simms Farmer Jr. passed away peacefully at home on December 13, 2023. Born to Hanson Simms Farmer and Rudene Keeble Farmer on Oct. 14, 1955, in Atlanta, Georgia, he was a graduate of the University of Georgia and avid supporter of his Bulldogs. A long-time member of Northside United Methodist Church, he and Jimmy Dickey helped build and grow the youth basketball program there. Hanson’s son, Hank, and daughter, Josie, were his greatest joy. He especially enjoyed coaching them in basketball, baseball and softball at NYO and Buckhead Baseball and continued to coach after they outgrew the leagues. He possessed a gift for teaching and coaching, always making each child feel important and included.

An ardent reader, Hanson preferred non-fiction, the longer and denser, the better. He loved fishing at Lake Lanier and many hunting trips with Hank and his friends at our family farm in Huntsville, Alabama.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Laney Farmer; son, Hank (Christie) Farmer; daughter, Josie (Devin) Fox; four adoring grandchildren, Janie, Simms and Sallie Farmer; and Mason and another baby Fox on the way; and his brothers, Stacy and Jim.

A family graveside service will be held in Huntsville, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Caritas Hospice, 800 Old Dawson Village Rd, Suite 20, Dawsonville, Ga 30534 or to the charity of your choice.
