IMG_2781 copySHEFFIELD – Monday Sunset Serenade in Riverfront Park took place on a hot, sultry night… The kind of Southern Summertime vibe, punctuated by covers of songs gone by that’s enough to get your heart pumping.

The crowd, sitting in lawn chairs, drinking cold beverages and fanning themselves like there was no tomorrow against the heat listened to the sweet 60’s tunes of The Villagers. The entertainment rolled seamlessly into the sounds of the Shoals’ premier band, the Midnighters.

Of course, everybody knows the Midnighters. James Counts and crew are tight. Consistent with their crowd-thrilling music…

But producer David Johnson keeps coming up with music surprises. The 60’s rock ‘n roll band, the Villagers played in Sheffield for the first time in decades. What fun! Readers may find it interesting to note that lead singer, Cliff Ellis has a side-job. that as head basketball coach at Coastal Carolina University. Ellis was also an award winning basketball coach at Auburn, where in 1999 he was named National Coach of The Year when his Tigers won 29 games and captured the school’s first SEC championship in 40 years.
