Halove Morgan, 102, died peacefully on December 20, 2024, at Generations Assisted Living. Halove was born on November 10, 1922, to Joseph Angie and Emma Lydia Lindley of Brewer, MS. She married John Marlin Morgan in 1943. They were married 74 years and had four children: Martha Jean Morgan Shipp, Frederick Marlin Morgan, Janice Halove Morgan Medlin, and Harry Lindley Morgan. Halove’s life was centered around her family and church.

Following her husband’s military service in World War II, the couple lived on Long Island, New York, where Mr. Morgan was an entomologist for the United States Department of Agriculture. The couple enjoyed New York City to the fullest, and Halove enjoyed walking Martha Jean to kindergarten each day. They also took numerous trips to Boston by train. After the birth of their second child, the couple moved to Plantersville, MS, where they founded Quality Discount Foods, a premier grocery store with two locations in Plantersville and Shannon.

Upon her passing, Mrs. Morgan was the oldest member of First Baptist Church of Plantersville, where she taught Sunday School, Training Union, and Vacation Bible School, was a member of Women in Missions, served on the Pulpit Committee, and hosted cottage prayer meetings. Halove was instrumental in decorating the new church sanctuary, and assisted in writing the church history. Mrs. Morgan also lent her talent for sewing to assist in designing the church choir robes. Her love for her family was only surpassed by her love for the Lord. Her faith was most important to her and was exemplified in her daily life. Her greatest attribute was Godly.

Halove supported her husband as an alderman and as mayor of Plantersville for sixteen years. Halove especially enjoyed assisting her husband in naming Plantersville’s streets during his time in office.

An advocate for maintaining good health, Mrs. Morgan and her husband were members of the Tupelo Wellness Center where they attended a daily exercise class until their nineties and were featured in the Tupelo Daily Journal for their dedication to exercise. She also enjoyed entertaining, and had numerous parties for her wellness group, friends, and her Sunday School class. Halove especially enjoyed planning her husband’s 90th and 95th birthday parties, and enjoyed her own 100th, 101st, and 102nd birthday parties that were attended by many friends and family. Halove was also a member of the Plantersville Home Demonstration Group, and also enjoyed walking daily and sewing with her best friend, Aleene Sample.

Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and sisters, her husband, and sons. She is survived by two children, Martha Jean Morgan Shipp (Phillip), and Jan Morgan Medlin (Johnny), daughter-in-law Rhonda Wuichet Morgan, grandchildren: Dr. Phillip Shipp IV (Mary Kim), Mary Morgan Shipp Bryan (Joel), Susan Shipp Upshaw (Shane), Carey Morgan, Eric Morgan (Melanie), Elizabeth Medlin, Whitney Morgan, Emiley Morgan McKnight (Nick), and thirteen great-grandchildren.
