Hallie Hogeland Leemon Alderson, 90, of Decatur, Alabama passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024.
Funeral services will be Sunday, January 7, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel, with
brother Benny Sivley officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. Visitation will also be Sunday,
January 7, starting at 12:30 PM at Shelton Funeral Home. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery following
the service.
Hallie was born August 28, 1933 to Jessie Nolan Hogeland and Goldie Bell Patterson Hogeland in Town
Creek, Alabama. Hallie and her twin brother, Howard, were the youngest of four children. She was
preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, William Skeggs Hogeland and Jessie Howard Hogeland.
Hallie was also preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Robert Hugh Leemon, and husband of
seven years, Eugene Elmore Alderson. She is survived by her sister and best friend, Betty Jean Sparkman.
Survivors also include her nephews and niece: Randy Hogeland (Pam), Michael Hogeland (Grayce), Jerry
Sparkman, and Jessica Payne (Larry), and great-nephews and great-nieces: April Hughes (Paul), Evan
Hogeland, Molly Hogeland, Kristen Lovett (Gary), Parker Sparkman (Shelby), Chandler Sparkman, Lauren
Neamtu (Benjamin), and great-great nieces: Aubrey Lovett and Addie Lovett.
Hallie was a beautiful person, devoted to her friends and family. She was a lifetime member of Decatur
Baptist Church and enjoyed the fellowship of a long-time “Young at Heart” group, and the literature
ministry. She loved celebrating birthdays and holidays and having any reason to get together. Her kind,
generous, and witty spirit will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
Through the years, Hallie touched the lives of so many people. She and her first husband, Robert,
opened the Dairy Queen in Hartselle, Alabama in 1960. Over the 40 years of Hartselle business
ownership, Hallie and Robert were generous contributors to the Hartselle community. They provided
support to non-profits, civic groups, and many youth organizations. They were also supportive and
involved in the lives of many young people who worked for them.
In 1999 Hallie had the joy of meeting and marrying her kind, second husband, Eugene Alderson, who
was a fabulous cook and wonderful companion for seven years. One of her greatest joys was gaining his
loving daughters and their families who all adored her. She is also survived by the Aldersons: step-
daughter, Donna Alderson Haraway (Bobby), and step-daughter, Karen Alderson Hollis (Rick). Step-
grandchildren: Wes Haraway (Jennifer), Matt Hollis (Naomi), Sarah Norwood (Malcolmb), and step-
great-grandchildren: Blake Haraway (Julie), Alea Haraway, Brett Drinkard (Shawna), Jackson Hollis,
Grayson Hollis, and Hollis Norwood.
Pall bearers will be Randy Hogeland, Michael Hogeland, Daniel Beggs, Parker Sparkman, Larry Payne, and Brett Drinkard.
