MONTGOMERY – Governor Robert Bentley has awarded grants of $10,000 each to help Haleyville and Double Springs purchase new police equipment.
The municipalities will purchase and install video camera systems in police patrol vehicles. Footage from the cameras can be used as evidence in court and as a training tool to ensure that officers follow proper procedures at the scene of an incident.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available to the state by the Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, workforce development, energy conservation, economic development, water resource management and recreation.
Bentley notified Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri and Double Springs Mayor Elmo Robinson that the grants had been approved.
