Haiti Yarborough

Haiti Yarborough, a beloved Bankhead school teacher of 38 years, passed away peacefully in Birmingham on March 25th.

Born to Leroy and Myrtle Kugler in Barney, Haiti was a proud graduate of Cordova High School. She went on to pursue a career in education, becoming the first in her family to earn a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and later her Master’s from UAB. She instilled a lifelong love of learning both in her family and her students.

Later in life Haiti became a faithful member of Argo First Baptist Church and loved her church family. She loved playing cards, enjoyed bingo, and dancing. Her last few years were spent at Cordova Health and Rehab, where she continued to be the life of the party.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel.  Burial will be at Sardis Cemetery on the River Road.

Haiti was preceded in death by her husband Howard Yarborough, her daughter Paige Yarborough Russell, son-in-law Terry Warren, sisters Nancy Miller and Joyce Hyche, and brothers Mickey, Austin, and Billy Wayne Kugler.

She is survived by her daughter Vickie Yarborough Guercio (Roy), her grandchildren Linsy Stephenson (Corey) and Remy Guercio (Marie), and her great-grandchildren Branson and Carmen Stephenson, and Roy Guercio.
