H. Tommie Cantrell, 94, a resident of the Palms, passed away peacefully at Shell Point Hospice, Fort Myers, Florida, on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. She was born April 4, 1921, to John and Minnie Lee Crim. Tommie was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, E. Dwight Cantrell.
Mrs. Cantrell is survived by her daughter, Jane Cantrell Hunt (husband, Charles), of Fort Myers; three grandchildren: Charles, Jr. (wife, Caralise) Hunt, of Auburn, Alabama, Janet Hunt of Vienna, Virginia, and Elizabeth Dunaway (husband, Matthew) of Birmingham, Alabama; four great-grandchildren: Corey and Carter Hunt, Lily and Anderson Dunaway, and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Southside Church of Christ.
Tommie spent all of her adult married life in the Muscle Shoals area of North Alabama, retiring from the Tennessee Valley Authority after 30 years. She moved to Fort Myers in 1995 and continued her favorite hobby of china painting and arts and crafts. She was a former member of the Gateway Golf and Country Club and the Gateway Women’s Club.
