Guy Theodore (Ted) Cook – Obituary

Guy Theodore (Ted) Cook passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018. He was 90 years old. The family will visit with friends on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from Noon until 2:00pm with the funeral service following at 2:00pm at Williams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia, Tennessee, Reverend Stan Vespie will be officiating.

Ted was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was a volunteer fireman, was a cowboy on a 5,000 acre cattle ranch in Florida and started his own garbage pick-up business. He moved the family to Mount Pleasant, Tennessee where he was a farmer. Ted raised tobacco, corn, hay, dairy cows, pigs, horses, chicken and a very large garden. For years he plowed with two mules before he finally bought a tractor. Ted worked for Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners, Orkin Termite Co., Tennessee Valley Termite Company and owned Ted’s Janitor Service. Ted was a Pueblo Boy Scout Leader. He loved to garden, raise flowers, build birdhouses and birdfeeders. He loved to joke and kid around with his family and friends. Later in life, he moved to the Tennessee River, where he loved his life, the people, fishing, his dogs, his cats and feeding the birds. He is a member of First Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, and later attended First Methodist Church and Tom’s Creek Baptist Church in Linden, Tennessee.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Daisy Cook, three brothers, a sister and his wife, Betty Yvonne Cook, one grandchild, James Cook and a son in law Jerry Kersey.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his five children: Linda Gail Kersey, Sharon (Jimmy) Damron, Robert (Sharon) Cook, Richard (Diane) Cook and David (Deborah) Cook. He has three grandchildren: Brian (Dedi) Kersey, Sherie (John) Yurewitch and Daxtyn Cook. His great grandchildren include Madison and Jace Yurewitch and Derrick Kersey. His family wishes to thank his special sitters for years: Debbie and Rich McNamara as well as the Perry County Nursing Home Staff.
