Gus G. Garrard, 82, of Russellville, passed away on August 29, 2024 from this life at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Maggie Mae Garrard and his brother, Sid Garrard.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Green Garrard, daughters Kellie Garrard Bowling (Ronnie), Kristie Garrard Ezzell (Terry), and Maggie Garrard Jenkins (Chad), seven grandchildren, Lauren Bowling Sams (Blake), Ryan Bowling, Logan Ezzell (Summer), Landon Ezzell (Faith), Owen, Eli and Allie Jenkins. Three great grandchildren, Ryder Bowling, Brianna Sams and Patton Ezzell, his sister, Carolyn Garrard Winstead, and several nieces and nephews.
Gus was a 1960 graduate of Haleyville High School. In 1964, he also graduated from Florence State College with a degree in political science and physical education. He was inducted into the Winston County Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
Gus and his family, originally from Haleyville, AL, moved to Russellville in 1976 when Gus went to work as a State Farm Insurance agent. With a strong work ethic and a heart for the community, Gus was committed to serving his clients. He retired in 2017 with 42 years of service with a company he loved and believed in. Gus was also a member of North Highlands Church of Christ. After retiring, Gus and Margaret moved to Muscle Shoals where they have resided ever since.
