Gurtha Olivia Wood Pool, age 93, of Muscle Shoals, died Monday, April 8, 2013. Her family will receive friends Wednesday 12-2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Her funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Rodney Shewbart officiating. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Gurtha was a Colbert County native and a member of York Terrace Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Effie Crosswhite Wood; her brothers, Curtis, Dewey, Comer and Leland Wood and sister, Gladys Wood Harrison.
Gurtha and her husband, Carl were survivors from the bombing of Pearl Harbor. During his naval career, she traveled with him to each port and made it their home. Gurtha loved gardening, especially her flowers and roses.
Survivors include her husband of seventy three years, Carl Pool, her daughter, Beverly Pool Garver (Harold) of Florence; sons, Gerald Pool of Birmingham, Mike Pool (Debbie) of Florence, sister, Vasey Wood Posey of Muscle Shoals; grandchildren, Christy Garver Regg (Jamie) of Hamilton, OH, Todd Garver (Lisa) of Lumberton, TX, Lauren Pool of Birmingham and Catherine Pool of Florence; great grandchildren, Caleb and Colin Regg, & Myles Garver.
Pallbearers are Mike Moore, Barry Pool, Brad Pool, Chris Pool, Steve Posey and Leland Wood.
