Grover Lee Gardner – Obituary

Grover Lee Gardner, age 84 of Athens, AL passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Huntsville Hospital. Mr. Gardner was born in Athens, AL on October 11, 1932 to William Oscar and Seleta McMunn Gardner.

Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife Rosina “Rose” Grichtmaier Gardner whom he married on October 9, 1954; two sons, Mark Gardner and Gary Gardner (Mary Jo Crystal); grandchildren, Matthew Gardner and Mary Gardner.

Mr. Gardner graduated from Tanner High School. He joined the United States Air Force; serving from April 1951-April 1955.Mr. Gardner was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 0049, and the Veteran Museum Chaplain. He was a member of the Limestone County Farmers Federation and the Alabama Cattle Association American Legion Chaplain. Mr. Gardner was a teacher in New York City for 25 years.

Mr. Gardner will lie in state from 10:00-11:00 Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church. His service will follow at 11:00 with Father Charlie Alookaran officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home on Monday, December 26, 2016. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
