Greg Allman

On May 27, 2017, the Music Industry lost an icon.  Greg Allman passed away.  Greg was part of the Allman Brothers Band with his brother Duane.

Gregory Lenoir Allman was born on December 8, 1947, in Nashville, Tennessee.  Greg worked delivering papers to purchase a Silvertone Guitar.  He was part of several bands, along with his brother, before finally finding fame as part of the Allman Brothers Band.

As part of the Allman Brothers Band, they made famous songs such as:

-Ramblin Man

-Midnight Rider

-Melissa

-Please Come Home

-Whipping Post

   Sadly, Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle crash in 1971.  The Allman Brothers Band continued to play until 1976, when the band broke up.  Greg formed the Greg Allman Band and began touring.  Most people remember that Greg married Cher in 1975.  The two of them had one child together.  They divorced in 1978.

During this time, Greg had problems with addiction from drugs and alcohol.  He had several brushes with the Law.  He continued his solo albums, playing across the United States.  Greg reformed the Allman Brothers Band with Dickie Betts for the 20^th anniversary of the band in 1989.  The band was inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.    Greg was so intoxicated that he couldn’t make it through his acceptance speech.  He later saw video of the induction and decided to stop drinking.

Greg began to have health problems.  He was diagnosed with Hepatitis C from a dirty needle in 2007.  He had a liver transport in 2010.  Greg continued touring but with a smaller schedule due to his health.  He recorded his last album at FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Greg passed away on May 27, 2017 at 69 years of age due to liver cancer complications.

The Allman Brothers music will live on for the next generations.  They were a mainstay in the Southern Rock movement.
