Mr. Grayford Eugene “Gene” Montgomery was born July 8, 1924 in Cypress Inn, TN the son of the late Lemuel Gideon and Bertha Edna Creasy Montgomery. He was united in marriage to Delphia Ovedell Williams on April 9, 1944. Mrs. Montgomery preceded him in death on February 26, 2020. Mr. Montgomery worked as a farmer and a towmotor operator. He was a member of the Pine Hill Church of Christ in Waterloo, AL and proudly served his Country in the 359th Air Service. Mr. Montgomery departed this life on September 10, 2021 in Cypress Inn, Tennessee at the age of 97 Years, 2 Months, 2 Days.
He is survived by four sons, Barry Montgomery (Gail) of Cypress Inn, TN, Jarry Montgomery (Phyllis) of Florence, AL, David Montgomery (Deena) of Cypress Inn, TN, Danny Montgomery (Carolyn) of Waterloo, AL; four daughters, Patricia Berzett (Don) of Athens, AL, Nancy Tilley of Cypress Inn, TN, Sherry Crosslin (Gaylon)of Florence, AL, Melissa Smith of Collinwood, TN; 23 Grandchildren, 45 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife of almost 77 years and parents, Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Partain; a son, Gary Allen Montgomery; two grandchildren, Blake Moore, Brandon Lee Montgomery; two brothers, Lee Montgomery, L.B. Montgomery; and five sisters, May Hayes, Eula Markum, Ruby Berry, Ida Pearl Berry, Opal Geans.
Services will be held on Sunday September 12, 2021 at 5:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors, Collinwood, Tennessee, with David Rushlow officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery with full Military Honors at Lutts with Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.
