ADECA mapMONTGOMERY – A $130,000 grant will assist the city of Arab in providing new jobs and encouraging additional commercial development.

The Community Development Block Grant will enable the city to provide infrastructure necessary for the construction of a Waffle House restaurant on North Brindley Mountain Parkway (U.S. Highway 231) while making the area conducive for future development. Waffle House will employ 30 people.

“This development will provide job opportunities and bring a new tax revenue source to the city,” Bentley said. “The infrastructure improvements made possible through this grant will be an asset to the city in attracting other businesses and providing more jobs.”

The city will extend sewer services required for Waffle House to invest $850,000 in building the restaurant.

Bentley notified Mayor Robert D. Joslin that the grant had been approved. Local funding of $26,000 is being added to the project.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, and water resource management.
