THE SHOALS-On Saturday, March 16 volunteers descended on the shores of the Tennessee River to do a little trash pick-up and had a good time while making the Tennessee River Beautiful.
Here is what Keep The Tennessee River Beautiful had to say about the day:
“Another great day thanks to amazing volunteers and partners coming out for The Shoals, AL Cleanup this morning. The morning’s chill burned off just as our dedicated volunteers got on the water and went to work. Living Lands and Waters took us to some coves on Wilson Lake that were in serious need. Our volunteers answered in a big way, pulling out a full dumpster of trash! LLW’s founder and 2013 CNN Hero of the Year, Chad Pregracke, entertained and inspired everyone throughout the event!
Helen Lowman, Keep America Beautiful President & CEO, was able to join our cleanup today. She celebrated with us again the $10,000 Community Restoration grant that KAB has awarded to Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful following February’s record flood event. Denise Taylor, Keep Alabama Beautiful Director, joined to commemorate the honor.
Thanks to Keep The Shoals Beautiful for providing breakfast biscuits! Our volunteers enjoyed lunch from Dick Howell’s Barbeque after the cleanup and then took a tour of Cypress Moon Studios, formerly the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio.
It was a fantastic day…We cleaned the river, sharing river camaraderie with volunteers from the four cities in the community: Sheffield, Muscle Shoals, Tuscumbia, and Florence. Then we delved in the local river culture of food and music. The people here are proud of The Shoals, AL…It shows and we can understand why!”
