Gracie Hembree Grissom

Gracie Hembree Grissom, age 104, of Cullman passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Morningside Assisted Living of Cullman. Her husband Hubert A. Grissom, Sr., predeceased her. She is survived by daughter Jenny G. Folsom of Cullman and son Hubert Grissom, Jr. of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren Leeth Grissom (Jennifer), Lauren Grissom and Christopher Grissom, and great granddaughter Callie Grissom, all of Birmingham. Gracie was born in Good Hope on November 9, 1916 to parents Lou Creacy Smith Hembree and Benjamin Franklin Hembree. She was predeceased by her sister Christine Patrick of Cullman and brothers Dorsey (Doc) Hembree of Cullman and Buell Hembree of Seattle, Washington. Gracie boasted that she joined the First (United) Methodist Church at age six with continued membership for 98 years possibly making her the longest living member at the time of her death. Gracie and husband Hubert graduated Cullman High School in 1936 with the yearbook, The Ladder, listing them as the “Most Love Sick Couple.” After graduation from CHS, Gracie attended Woodall Beauty School in Birmingham and for thirty-five years was the owner/operator of Gracie’s Beauty Shop in downtown Cullman. She was an early member of Cullman’s Business and Professional Women, member of Bob Sapp’s Sunday School Class, the Dogwood Garden Club and the Order of Eastern Star. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Cullman City Cemetery with Moss Service directing. Due to the Covid19 restrictions, masks are required and social distancing appreciated.
