Grace McClure Smith, 97, of Madison, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, December 16, 2024. She was born May 5, 1927, to James Reuben and Grace Bolen McClure in Toney Alabama. She was retired as a school bus driver for Madison County Schools at Monrovia School for over 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Calvin B Smith, her parents, two sisters, Joyce Shrewsbury and Marilyn Schild, a brother, James McClure, son-in-law, Chad Morris, granddaughter, Anna Katherine Smith, and great-granddaughter, Sarah Gayle Gibbs.
She is survived by her seven children, Calvin B Smith Jr. (Sandra), James “Jimmy” William Smith (Pam), Pam Hillis (Bobby), Anita Fisher (Mike Rhodes), Kim Gibbs (Jeff), Pat Whitt (Tom) and Terri Morris; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; and her brother, Leonard McClure.
Her family wishes to give special thanks to her loving caregivers, Willie Mae Fletcher, Stacy Dixey, Kelly Whitt, and the visiting staff of Aveanna Hospice.
Visitation will be Friday, December 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville with a graveside service to follow at Madison Cross Roads Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Toney at 2 p.m.
