Grace Cowan, 76, of Owens Cross Roads, passed away on October 8, 2014 at her residence after a 5 year battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Grace was a lifelong residence of Madison County in the Owens Cross Roads area. She was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church. She spent many years taking care of others as a nurse and also as a foster mother to numerous children. As her hobbies, she loved Alabama Football, Atlanta Braves Baseball, watching QVC and cooking. She lived an adventurous life, she loved to travel and go white water rafting. She was predeceased by her parents Emmett Roy and Willie Mae Pearson Lanier. Grace is survived by her husband of 60 years; Vernon Cowan, Son; Mark Cowan (Shawn), daughter; Mary Ryder (Joe), grandchildren; David Earl Avery, Stephanie Amanda McLaughlin (Lieutenant Lance), Ashley Gray (John), Zachary Cowan (Lauren), Ashley Dupree, Christopher Dupree, Sarah Ryder and Jackson Cowan, great grandchildren; Samantha Avery, Natalie McLaughlin, Elijah Hennington and Madison Grace Cowan. Special thanks to Hospice Family Care; especially Leslie and Joann. Funeral Service will be on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 am at Hampton Cove Chapel with the Rev. John Martin and Chaplain Anthony Ford. Burial will follow in Hampton Cove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be: Jackson Cowan, Zach Cowan, Christopher Dupree, John Gray, Earl Avery, Lieutenant Lance McLaughlin and Joe Ryder.
