Governor awards $667,459 to assist abuse victims in north Alabama

stop-domestic-violenceMONTGOMERY—A Huntsville-based nonprofit organization will continue assisting domestic violence and sexual assault victims in four north Alabama counties with the help of three grants totaling $667,459 awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley.

The grants will help Crisis Services of North Alabama provide emergency shelter and other services to victims in Jackson, Limestone, Madison and Morgan counties.

The organization’s HELPline offers 24-hour telephone counseling to help victims cope with abuse. The Hope Place shelter offers a safe and secure place for victims and their children to stay. Staff members refer victims to community agencies that offer f62126b9286c4fc7053d740e8aaa1b1e (1)additional assistance. Crisis Services also provides prevention education programs to community groups and response training to medical, emergency and law enforcement personnel.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ADECA manages an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.

Bentley informed Deborah Williams, president of the center’s board, that the grants had been approved.
