FLORENCE-Governor Kay Ivey visited the Shoals on Friday, August 4. While in the Shoals on her “Listen, Learn, and Lead” tour she presented a check in the amount of $4 million to help fund the building of Northwest-Shoals CC workforce development center in Lauderdale County.
The economic fund money and $1 million from the community college will be used as a match when NWS-CC asks for $5 million from the Shoals Economic Development Fund.
The workforce development center will be built on the same 167-acre site in Lauderdale County as the planned agriculture center and arena. There will also be a career technical training school for Lauderdale County schools.
The new workforce center will help in providing training for existing industries and will also make space available for new industry as well.
Northwest-Shoals President Humphrey Lee said, “When you think about it, with the interstate in Athens, this will make it more convenient to do some cross-training with that area.”
“This whole area is committed to workforce development. It is imperative that we have effective training for our workforce to attract new jobs,” stated Governor Ivey.
