Gordon Wilkins Russell, Sr., age 86 passed away April 28, 2023 at his home.
He was born August 31, 1936, in Henderson, TN, the son of the late Samuel Lonzo Russell and Addie Bell Wilkins Russell.
He attended Sweetlips School, worked the fields with his family and moved to Joliet, IL in 1958. He worked for Ford Motor Company for twenty-five years. He retired and moved back to Chester County in 1991. He started gardening and helping his neighbors with their crops.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a friend and neighbor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Russell, a son, Butch Russell, two sisters, Peggy Jean Phillips, and Mamie Nell Morain; six brothers, Raymond J. Russell, Tillman T. Russell, Roy Russell, Gilbert R. Russell, James E. Russell, Max P. Russell; his grandparents, Jeff and Lou Russell.
Mr. Russell is survived by two sons, Mike Russell (Lisa) of Henderson and Joe Russell of Henderson; six grandchildren, Marilyn Russell, Matthew Russell, Michelle Russell, Joey Jr. Russell, Caleb Russell and Haylee Russell.
Great-grandchildren, Matthew McDaniel, Olivia Cantway, Ari Russell, Leona Russell, Madelyn Kaylor, Grace Kaylor, Aiden Russell, Adelyn Russell, Emalyn Russell and Easton Russell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and helping his neighbors. He was member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and loved his Lord, and gospel music.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, April 30th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Randy Mead and JoAnn Russell Greer officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetlips Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at East Main 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM service time.
