Gordon Okley Glasscock, 74, of Florence, died October 24, 2023. Gordon was the son of the late Agnes Barr and Gordon Merritt “Doc” Glasscock.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anastasia Nunez Glasscock, and his grandparents, Mace Ryan and Mattie Mariah Glasscock of Hartselle, AL and Oakley E. and Verna Lea Duke Barr of Florence, AL.
He is survived by his brother, Donald Merritt Glasscock Sr. (Jan) along with a niece, nephews, aunts, uncle, and many cousins.
Gordon attended the University of Alabama on a swimming scholarship. He later lived in New Orleans for many years where he worked as a cook on an oil rig. He returned home to help with the family business when his father became ill, later taking over as owner of Ye Ole General Store which had been started by his grandfather, Okley Barr along with his grandson, Jerry Rogers.
Gordon was a valued member of the downtown community and always shared stories of Florence and The Shoals with everyone who entered the door at Ye Ole General Store. Downtown will definitely miss Gordon O. Glasscock.
Williams Funeral Home is assisting the family and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
