Goldie “Boss Hogg” Pigg passed away on Friday at his home surrounded by his family. He was 78. Mr. Pigg was born and lived his entire life in the Hazel Green Community. He was a Christian and a member of the Pleasant Home Baptist Church. He had worked at Peacock Apothecary and Bragg Farms, and had faithfully served the community through the Hazel Green Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chief for several years.
Mr. Pigg was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Donia Pigg; his sisters, Juanita Satterfield, Bertie Pigg, Ruby Mitchell, Junie Mae Barnett, Katie Shelton, and Clara Brown; and his brothers: Erskine Pigg, Earl Clutts, Roger Pigg, and Clarence Pigg Jr.
Surviving family members include his wife of 57 years, Jean Pigg; his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa & David “Eddie” Moore of Hazel Green, Alabama; his grandsons: Stephen (Winter) Moore of Fayetteville, Tennessee, and Michael Heath (Neal) VanMarter of Norcross, Georgia; his brother, Jerry Pigg of Hazel Green; his sister, Judy Simmons of Kelso, Tennessee; his great-grandchildren: Olivia, Autumn, and Jayda Schwartz; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews, his special friends/cousins Buck Sanders and Odell Laster.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, and burial will follow in Bevill’s Cemetery. Brother Wade Martin, Brother Ricky Hamilton, and Brother Tim Britton will officiate.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or SouthernCare Hospice in honor of Goldie.
