Graveside services for Gloria Jeter will be held February 6, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rocky Springs Cemetery with Reverend Maurice Hayes officiating. Ms. Jeter died on February 1, 2023 at Henderson Health and Rehab in Henderson, Tennessee.
A native of Jackson, Tennessee, she was born November 7, 1931 near Pinson, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Elbert and Katherine Kendrick Jeter. She was a graduate of the former Beech Bluff High School where she was a member of the Beta Club, played first-string basketball, a cheerleader her freshman year and was awarded the DAR Citizenship Award.
She attended West Tennessee Business College and was Office Manager for Allen-Henry Company Food Brokers, which was here first job and she was employed for 45 years. In addition to her duties with the brokerage firm, she also worked part-time for Central Warehouse Company and L&M Tea Company. She was a former member of the Business & Professional Women’s Club and Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.
She enjoyed traveling and had traveled to every state in the continental US with the exception of Oregon and Washington and made several trips outside of the country. She also enjoyed the theater, painting, art galleries and museums, reading, writing, genealogy, playing bridge, flower gardening and bird watching. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and sang in the church choir.
She was a descendant from two of Madison County’s pioneer families the Kendrick and Henderson families.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Jeter and Conard Jeter, one nephew, Mark Jeter, and one great niece, Ashley Allen.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Karon Jeter and Coy Jean Jeter, two nieces, Kippie Allen Hankins and husband Mike Hankins, Lisa Gunn and husband Tim Gunn, three nephews, Tracy Jeter and wife Joy Jeter and Jason Jeter, great nieces, Karrah Allen and Leslie Lowrance McCurdy and husband Chris McCurdy, three great nephews, Ben Jeter and wife Katie, Justin Jeter and Michael Jeter and great-great niece Ella McCurdy and great-great nephew Knox McCurdy.
The family would like to extend a gracious thank you to Barbara Hill, her best friend and cousin, and daughter Karmela Hill Kimberlin for all of the help over the years that they extended to Gloria.
Pallbearers to serve: Art Wells, Chucky Kendrick, Mark Wyatt, Perry Jeter, Tracy Jeter and Jason Jeter.
