Funeral for Gloria Jean Vandiver Cheatham, 75, of Decatur will be on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at
Ridout’s Brown-Service funeral home chapel at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at 10:00 am followed by a
service at 11:00 am. Graveside service will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
Jean Cheatham passed away September 10, 2023. She was born on July 22, 1948, in Haleyville, AL to
Mary and Joyce W. Vandiver.
She graduated from Hackleburg High School with the class of 1966. She attended Livingston University.
She retired from Decatur General Hospital after 37 years of service. She was an active and long-time
member of First Baptist Church of Austinville.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mary and J.W. Vandiver and brother Jimmy Gray Vandiver.
Jean is survived by her loving husband Wayman Cheatham of 51 years; two sons Corey (Candy)
Cheatham and Benji (Kaethe) Cheatham; and beloved dog, River.
She is survived by the following siblings: Jewell Cox, John Vandiver, Becky Randolph, Ann Sims, and
nieces and nephews.
She was a wonderful Meme to her grandchildren Ben Cheatham, Avery Cheatham, Kayley Cheatham,
Kinsey Cheatham, and step-grandchildren Presthan Bryant and Dakoba Bryant.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Mark Cheatham, Eddie Cheatham, Ben Cheatham, Avery Cheatham, Scotty
Vandiver, and Dale Vandiver.
Service will be officiated by Randy Berry and Alan Compton.
