Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Gloria Jean Thrasher Vickery, who passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022. The Dr. David Carroll and Gary Williams will conduct services. Burial to follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Gloria was born on December 11, 1946 in Etowah County and lived in Rainbow City. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Malone Baptist Church.
Gloria graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1965.
Gloria retired as Administrative Support Assistant II on October 1, 2005 from the State of Alabama Etowah County Department of Human Resources after working for 32 ½ years of services. She worked in the Foster Care Program -Social Services Division handling foster care payments to the foster children of Etowah County. She loved her job and was a very dedicated and respected worker.
Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Willis Anderson (W.A.) Thrasher; mother, Billie Louise Cook Thrasher; beloved step-father, John D. Thrasher; grandmother, Maude Cook; mother-in-law, Bonnie Lee Helton Vickery; best friends, Bruce and Valencia Carr.
Gloria is survived by her beloved husband, James Austin Vickery; son, Patrick Ewell Brown; step- daughter, Sarah Denise Vickery Hathorn. Gloria was very proud of both of them and both developed into really fine human beings; her beautiful and adorable granddaughter Saralyn Devon Brown; sister, Peggy Willingham; brother, Chris (Carol) Thrasher; niece, Dana Furman; nephews, Pete (Mary) Willingham and Kevin Thrasher (Christa); great niece, Abigell (Matthew) Young; great nephews, Neil Furman and Joel Willingham; brother-in-law David Barnett. Gloria is also survived by a host of Vickery nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and Thrasher cousins.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Timothy Bradford Sharpton and David Dewayne Barnett. These two were very special nephews that required Gloria giving visitation to show them well deserved attention.
Special friends were Ann Turner, Shirley Carr, Mary Stanley, Carolyn Miller, and a host of coworkers at Etowah County Department of Human Resources.
Special thanks to Chris Vickery who always came to the aid of Aunt Gloria when she called for help. To his blessed children, Taylor and Austin who brought more joy to her when they ran to her arms for love and kisses.
Pallbearers will be her special nephews, Kevin Thrasher, Joseph E. Willingham, Joel Willingham, Joel Englebert, Cephus Profitt, Donnie Vickery II.
Flowers are welcome but it is her wishes that donations be made to her church Malone Baptist Church,
1117 Dwight Ave., Gadsden, Alabama 35904.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
