Ms. Slaton passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Cullman Regional Medical Center, due to congestive heart failure. She was born October 16, 1960, in Cullman, AL to Fredrick Earl Smith and Velma Elizabeth Brock Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Michael Slaton; parents; three brothers, Norvel Smith, Gail Smith, and Daniel Smith; three sisters, Clovis King (Frank), Shirley Couch (Emerson), and Vera Holllingsworth (Jim), as well as two more brothers-in-law, Herschel Stewart and James Bozle.
Glenda was a strong-willed woman, even as we were children, but having two boys and one girl with an amazing husband who owned his own business, she had to be! Not only was she the best mother to her children with an abundance of love, caring heart, and mama bear fierceness, she was always there with wisdom only a mother could give. Of course, when she had grandchildren, she was the same for them. Honestly, probably even better. She spent her pastime reading murder mystery books, and watching her show she called her boys (The Winchesters)(Dean & Sam). She loved watching her grandbabies grow and play, reminding her of the children she raised. Sadly, in 2013, she started the fight for her life. Princeton Miracle is what the hospital named her. We applaud her for fighting and all suffering for so many years just for her family! Not just any homemaker could do what she did.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Shane Slaton (Katelin) and Wesley Keith Slaton (Lindsey); daughter, Jamie Michelle Slaton (Kallen Freeman); brother, Earl Smith; three sisters,Geneva Stewart, Linda Hutson (Wendell), and Earline Bozle; 11 grandchildren, Carter Gregg Sutfin, Haylie Mae Sutfin, Khloe Elizabeth Strahan, Kimber Rose Strahan, Kaleb Michael Slaton, Lucas Bryant Slaton, Lilly Jo Slaton, Dayton Grant Freeman, Wesley Keith Slaton, Jr., Gavin Michael Huey Ray, and Destinee Sierra Ray; and great-grandchild, Annabelle Grace Odom.
Pallbearers will be Kaleb Slaton, Dayton Freeman, Keith Slaton, Lucas Slaton, and Kallen Freeman.
