Mrs. Gladys Crosswhite Slaton, 97, of Tuscumbia, formerly of Leighton, departed this earth for her heavenly home on Thursday, November 06, 2014. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 11, 2014, 11-12 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Her funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
A devoted follower of Christ, she was a member of Leighton Baptist Church for over seventy years. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Geneva Crosswhite; husband, Russell Slaton; grandson, Arlie Bevis and seven siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Bevis and husband A.C., grandson, Joseph Russell Bevis and wife Lori all of Wilmington, NC.
The family extends their gratitude to Cottage of the Shoals for their care, also there are no words to express the family’s gratitude to Mrs. Slaton’s nephew, Billy J. Crosswhite who visited her daily, meeting her every need and she loved him so very much.
Pallbearers are Billy Joe Crosswhite, Gordon Crosswhite, Frank Crosswhite, Douglas Flannigan, Jake Meherg, Joseph Russell Bevis, and Billy Frank Letsinger.
