Gladys Brown Jones, 85, was born in Fort Pierce, FL on October 3, 1938, to Gladys Miriam Harrison and Howard Anthony Brown. Gladys went to be with her Heavenly Father on September 24, 2024. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charlie T Jones III; her sons, Howard L (Lee) Jones of Foley, AL, Charlie T (Chuck) Jones IV and his wife, Jennifer Lell Jones; her grandson, Charlie T (Thompson) Jones V; and granddaughter, Caroline Elizabeth Jones of Mountain Brook, AL.

Gladys was a member of Central Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and serving as a Deacon, helping others. She enjoyed serving in leadership positions in each group that she joined and contributed greatly to the goals and accomplishments of the organization.

She was a member of the Twickenham Town Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of Helion Chapter #203, Order of the Eastern Star of Alabama. She was the Secretary to the first President of the University of Alabama in Huntsville and was the Administrator of Industrial Security and Immigration until she retired in 2002. As a Representative of the Staff & Faculty Council, she was instrumental in establishing a SAFE fund for faculty and staff employees in need.

She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Alabama Credit Union for 32 years and served as Chairman of the Board on several occasions. As the representative from north Alabama, she was instrumental in getting the Huntsville Branch of the Credit Union located on campus. She was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award in Alabama and also at the Southeastern Conference of Credit Unions in Orlando, FL. Gladys’ joy was to serve others in whatever she did.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Central Evangelical Presbyterian Church, followed by a Reception in the Cooper House.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gladys Jones to the Music Ministry of Central Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 406 Randolph Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35801, to Secret Meals for Hungry Children Charity at any Branch Office of the Alabama Credit Union, or to your favorite charity.
