Mrs. Girlene Smith Richerson, 79, of Covington, formerly of Hornsby and Memphis, passed away on Thursday morning, October 19, 2023, at Magnolia Creek Nursing Home in Covington where she had been a resident for 15 years.
She was born in Hornsby, the daughter of the late Henry Jones Smith and Marie Crawford Smith. Moving to Memphis in 1966, she lived there and continued her career as a hair stylist and continued working as one until 1999. She had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Covington, however, when she could no longer attend services, she enjoyed listening to lessons and studying the Bible with churches that came to Magnolia Creek. Girlene was effective in spreading the Word of God to residents there, as well. In her leisure time, she enjoyed coloring and crafts or anything that involved working with her hands.
Mrs. Richerson is survived by a daughter, Nancy Marie Rowell (Dennis) of Atoka, TN; a son, James Douglas Richerson (Lisa) of Drummonds, TN; a brother, James Marshall “Jimmy” Baker of Hornsby; three grandchildren, Brent Rowell (Sarah), Hannah Perkins and Kelsey Richerson; two step-grandchildren, Adam and Dustin; and four great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Jacob Rowell, Annabelle and Abigail Perkins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Ann Richerson of Bolivar and Mary Katherine Brown of Louisville, KY.
