Colonel Gilbert H. Edmondson, US Army Retired, Owens Crossroads, AL, ended his long battle with congestive heart failure on April 30, 2023, at the age of 81. Having completed his service to his country and to his family, he passed on to his eternal rest surrounded by his loving family. A true American patriot, he lived his life with a strong love of God, country, and family.
Gil was born in Woodland, Alabama on April 23, 1942, to Francis Nellie Lovvorn. He earned his BS degree in Biological Sciences from Auburn University in 1965 and continued to be a loyal Auburn Tiger supporter throughout his life. After graduating from Auburn, he enlisted in the United States Army. Gil continued his education in the Army, receiving an MS degree in Logistics Management from Florida Institute of Technology in 1977. He completed the Army’s Command and General Staff College in 1981, and the Air War College in 1989. Gil’s Army career as an Ordnance Officer involved numerous assignments including the US Army Aviation and Missile Command, Germany, and Vietnam. He retired with the rank of Colonel in 1993.
In civilian life, Gil served as the Director of Logistics for AC Inc. and Vice President of Marketing for LESCO, both military support organizations in the Huntsville area. In 2005 he co-founded ALOG Corporation, which became well known and respected among DoD agencies and defense contractors.
As a young boy, Gil was fascinated by the movie and television exploits of Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, Roy Rogers, and other larger-than-life heroes. As an adult he became an avid collector of cowboy-related artifacts and most anything associated with the Old West. Gil was a kind, generous, and easy-going man who loved all his family dearly. He also loved dogs. He and his wife, Judy, favored Yorkshire Terriers, and little Chloe Ashton and Ellie Grace are surely missing him.

Edmondson; daughter, Suzanne Nicole Edmondson; granddaughter, Olivia Nicole Edmondson; daughter, Amy Michelle Colvin Cheatham; sister, Rhonda G. Hamilton of Moore, Oklahoma; sister, Rose Y.
