Gilbert Dupree of Hazel Green passed away on Wednesday at his home surrounded by loving family. He was 86.
Mr. Dupree had retired from Martin Industries after 36 years of employment and was a Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Hazel Green. He also enjoyed selling cars at Bentley Auto Sales in Meridianville.
He was preceded in death by his son, James “Bubba” Dupree Jr; his daughter, Kelly Dupree Ellenburg; his granddaughter, Lindsey Dupree; his siblings: Wesley Dupree, Robert Dupree, Eason Dupree, Joseph Dupree, Orville Dupree, Lillian Pike, and Doris Grider.
Surviving family members include his wife of 59 years, Betty Dupree; his son and daughter-in-law,, Steve & Charlotte Phillips; His is also survived by his nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, his sister, Mary Snipes, numerous nieces and nephews including his special niece, Marcia Edwards.
Mr. Dupree was a gifted musician and loved to play his guitar and sing. He will be remembered for his friendly personality, loving to talk to everyone he met, being a NASCAR fan, and loving his dog, Bella.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5pm until 7pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home, Funeral services will be Saturday at 1pm at the funeral home with Reverend Bobby Eads officiating. Burial will follow the service and will be in Concord Cemetery.
