Gertrude “Trudy” Christian Lazenby, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on July 2, 2024, after a short illness.
Trudy was born and raised in Wolford, VA. She moved to Joliet, IL, when she was 17 years old. There she met and married the love of her life, William R. Lazenby Sr. Trudy was a devoted Christian, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. After the deaths of her husband and daughter,
she moved to Madison, AL, in 2018 to be near her son and his family. She always considered Illinois her home.
She is survived by her beloved son, William (Dana) Lazenby Jr. of Madison, AL; grandchildren Brittany Lazenby and Stephen Lazenby of Madison, AL, and Sarah Stroh; son-in-Law Barry Gill of Plainfield, IL; sisters June Jachimski, Judy Bland, Sue Jones, and Linda Zofchak; dear niece Debi Watson, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William R. Lazenby Sr.; daughter Gwen Gill; parents John Quincy and Lillian May Christian; brothers, Paul and Charles Christian; and sisters: Evelyn Stacy, Audrey Christian, Lois Munsey, Pauline King, Anna O’Quinn, and Ruby Lazenby.
Cremation will be handled by Berryhill Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville, AL. A graveside service will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL at a later date.
