Gertha Nash Travis – Obituary

gerthaGertha Nash Travis passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at the age of 93.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Kay, and husband Tommy Scott; granddaughter, Nina Hall; sister-in-law, Dorothy Nash; and several nieces and nephews.
Miss Gertha retired from banking after more than 35 years, working at Peoples National Bank, State National Bank, and SouthTrust, and was a member of the Retired Bankers organization for more than 30 years. After retirement she enjoyed working at Scott’s Orchard during the fall. She served on the board of directors for United Cerebral Palsy in Huntsville for 30 years, volunteered with Madison County Special Olympics for more than 43 years, and was a long time active member of Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 176.
Miss Gertha enjoyed life to its fullest. She was a warm, kind, giving, compassionate person, who enjoyed working, being a volunteer, traveling, and just being with people made her happy. Those who knew her will miss that sweet smile, gentle laugh, and most of all when she would call you “Hun”. She will be greatly missed by so many.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, February 14 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow in the chapel with Wayne Harvell officiating. Pallbearers will be Rolo Weaver, Andy Weaver, Randy Raney, Cecil Raney Jr., James Taylor, Jim VanAllen, John Nichols, and Ronnie Ashby.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Madison County Special Olympics, 2095 Scott Road, Hazel Green, AL 35759.
