Gerald Oneal Scruggs – Obituary

Gerald Oneal Scruggs, 83, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Monday, December 2, 2013 at Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and remained a member of American Legion Post 15 until his death. He was deeply honored to have been able to serve his country. He was a retired welder and of the Baptist Faith. He loved to spend time with his family, fish, repair small engines, and garden. He will always be remembered for his contagious laughter. Visitation is scheduled for 5 until 9 PM on Tuesday, December 03 at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Bro. Phillip Logan. Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers include James Lowell Barnes, Josh Barnes, Sam Hampton, Cliff McBee, Larry Roberts, and Donnie Yarbrough. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by 1 daughter – Debra Rutherford (Marty) of Iuka; a daughter in law – Dian Hurst; 2 grandchildren – Anna Rutherford and Michael Honeycutt; 2 great grandchildren – Elaura Effel and Seth Honeycutt; numerous nieces and nephews that he especially loved; and a dear friend, Joyce Johnson, who held a special place in his heart for her help, support, and love during his declining years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Celeste Wright Scruggs; his step son, Eddy Honeycutt; his parents, G.C. and Minnie Scruggs; two brothers, John Scruggs and Harold Scruggs; and seven sisters – Ruby Scruggs, Lula Mae Bishop, Thelma Yarbrough, Lois Barnes, Dorothy Jourdan, Beatrice Scruggs, and Irene Scruggs.
