Gerald Lamar Boyd, age 84, of Decatur, passed away on July 17th, 2023.
Mr. Boyd was born April 1, 1939, to Clara and Emmitt Boyd and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. He was also lovingly supported by his Aunt and Uncle, Margaret and Everett Selby of Roebuck. He served his country in the US Army and later became a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite of Freemasons. He had a dedicated career in the insurance industry, ultimately serving as a district manager from 1965 until his retirement in 2001. Though deeply committed to service and work, Gerald built a life of even greater fulfillment and love by hosting countless meals or days-long adventures with family and friends, all with a focus on fishing, hunting, cooking, toasting, laughing, dancing, and generally uplifting others with his bright-eyed spirit and incomparable sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Emmitt Gerald Boyd; his daughter, Julie Hill; his Aunt and Uncle, Margaret and Everett Selby; and his cousin, Bill Selby.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Clark Boyd; his sons Tim Douthit (Shannon), Greg Douthit, and Prentiss Douthit; his grandchildren Jay McGiboney, Sam Douthit (Sydney), McKelvy Douthit (Anna), Brit Douthit, and Drew Douthit; and his great-granddaughters, Julieann and Jessa.
Visitation will be held at Central United Methodist Church in Decatur, Alabama, at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 28th. A funeral service will follow at 2:00. The family invites all who loved Gerald to join them at a Celebration of Life gathering at Double Tree Hotel that evening from 5:00 – 8:00.
