Gerald Dean Swann died Saturday, March 5, 2022 at UAB hospital at the age of 79.
Born August 26, 1942, Gerald loved being outdoors and spent most of his life working outside. He was a man of many talents, – mechanic, logger, excavator, carpenter and a fix-it man. He was a certified John Deere mechanic, owned his own logging equipment and dug many basements with his bulldozer. He remodeled 5 rental houses and installed hardwood floors in all of them in addition to his own home. Gerald loved to kid and joke around with all of his nieces and nephews. Gerald also loved animals, of which he had many through the years, especially his beloved dogs, Roxie and Jack.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosa Bell Henderson Swann and Leonard H. Swann, sisters, Hazel Swann Veigl and Gladys Swann Graveman, brothers, Wilmer Swann and Avel Swann, and in-laws, Juel and Loretta Lee.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Nan Lee Swann, sister Phyllis Swann Holcomb, sister-in-law Glenda (Martin) Raney, nieces, Leeann (Dan) Plank, Melissa Veigl (Brian) Messersmith, nephews Patrick Raney, Edgar (Beth) Veigl and Edward Veigl, great niece, Lillie Beth Veigl and great nephew, Ian Austin Messersmith.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 Wednesday. March 9 and Cullman Heritage Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service Thursday, March 10, at 11:00 am at Cullman City Cemetery. Rev. James Walker, former paster and beloved friend, and Rev. Tommy Graves officiating. Pall Bearers will be Dan Plank, Patrick Raney, Edgar Veigl, Ian Messersmith, Bobby King, and Gene Smith.
