Gerald Dean Humphrey, age 69, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at his home in Santa Fe, Tennessee.
Gerald was born February 23, 1948 in Santa Fe, Tennessee to the late Elton Humphrey and the late Minnie Himes. Gerald’s life was defined by the work that he did. He could operate a chainsaw before he could drive a car. He began his career logging with Mules, then moved into operating heavy machinery. He made operating a backhoe an art form; it was like a second set of hands. He worked hard all the time however; it was the work that he did for others that was of the greatest value to him. Gerald would give the shirt off his back or dig a foundation, anything to lend a hand. If he wasn’t helping someone he wasn’t happy. He worked hard his entire life and made a mark on many lives, he will be dearly missed.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife Amye Tennyson Humphrey; daughter: Megan Humphrey; and brother: James Humphrey. He is preceded in death by his parents Elton and Minnie Humphrey; brother: John Humphrey; sister: Bertha Shouse.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Pinewood Cemetery with Bro. Larry Tarkington officiating. Gerald would want you to be comfortable, please dress as you prefer. Pinewood Cemetery is located at the corner of Tom Rail Rd. and Beard Rd. in Santa Fe, Tennessee.
Special thanks to Dr. Srikar Reddy and Dr. Ben Gardner as well as staff and medical personnel at Vanderbilt Medical Center and Maury Regional Hospital.
