Georgia Mae Brigham Colwell, age 93, of Huntsville, AL entered into heaven on Thursday November 5, 2020. She was born on April 3, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. She was married to Harold Spencer Colwell Sr. on January 25, 1946. Georgia was a homemaker whose greatest joy was being surrounded by her family. She often talked about how blessed she was to have a large, loving family. She worked at Loveman’s and McRae’s and made many lifelong friends while there. She also enjoyed drawing cartoon characters on homemade greeting cards, creating picture albums for her family and playing card games with her many friends and family throughout her lifetime. She lived at Regency Retirement Village for many years and loved the many activities but her favorite was playing bingo with her friends. She was a strong, independent woman who loved deeply and who spoke her mind. When her husband was bedridden for many years she lovingly cared for him without complaint. They met after WWII in a dance hall which led to a lifelong love of dancing with each other. The family has many memories of them dancing together. She also loved music and sang little songs to her children. “The Band Played On” was one of her favorites to sing and over the last several months enjoyed listening to praise and worship music. Georgia was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 58 years, Harold Spencer Colwell Sr., her parents, Robert and Mary Brigham, her brothers Bob Brigham and Bill Brigham (Lorrie), her beloved son, Harold Colwell Jr. and grandson Brad Colwell. She is survived by her loving children, Deborah Minor (Roger), Terri Everhart (Chuck), Arthur Colwell (Nita), John Colwell (Lisa), Roger Colwell (Angela), Sandra Lasater (Ralph), Richard Colwell (Leda), her much loved daughter-in-law, Pat Colwell, and sister-in-law Gertrude Brigham. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 3 nephews. The Celebration of Service will be held on Sunday November 22 at 1:00 at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel on Winchester Road in Huntsville AL. Visitation will be one hour pior to service. Mrs. Colwell will be Laid to Rest beside her husband at Bevill’s Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
