George Wayne Shaw – Obituary

George Wayne Shaw, 79, retired employee of Union Carbide and life-long resident of Knob Creek, died Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rodney Shaw, Bobby McFarlin, and Patrick Fulmer officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born November 21, 1939 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Tom J. Shaw and the late Bessie Jacobs Shaw. He was best known for his dry sense of humor and willingness to help anyone in need. Mr. Shaw loved to fill visiting children with candy before they went home. He enjoyed farming and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, whom he married January 7, 1963, Kay Mobley Shaw of Columbia; son, Rodney (Vivian) Shaw of Sedan, Kansas; daughter, Shannon Kay (Jason Fulmer) Shaw of Conway, Arkansas; grandchildren, Mandy (Damon) Wolfe, Erica (Jake) Horton, Garrett Green, Brandon Shaw, Zander Shaw, Ricquel Shaw, Zoey Shaw, Drayden Shaw; eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Jamie Smithson, Randy Fitzgerald, Randy D. Fitzgerald, Brandon Shaw, Zander Shaw, Tony Truitt, Larry Weaver, Thomas Mobley, Jr., Jason Fulmer, and Jake Shaw. Honorary pallbearers include Jeff Ragsdale, Tommy Logue, Jennifer Baltz, Gary Ledbetter, Ashley Brown, Dr. David Turner, and the nursing staff of the Critical Care Unit at Maury Regional Medical Center.
