George Thomas Hunt, 91, of Green Hill, Alabama (formerly of East Peoria, Illinois) passed away at 11:55 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC), after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Callie Eloise “Lois” Hunt (nee: Vines); Parents, William Leo Hunt, and Eula Lee Hunt (nee: Hamm) of Green Hill, Alabama; A Sister, Betty June McDow of Minor Hill, Tennessee; Two Brothers, Quincy O’Neal Hunt, and Edward Hunt, both of Lauderdale County Alabama. Thomas is survived by two sons, Steve Hunt (Sherrie) of Greensboro, North Carolina and Phil Hunt (Cheryl) of Salt Lake City, Utah; Two grandchildren, Seth Hunt (Amy), Currently serving in the US Coast Guard in New Jersey and Stephanie Hunt, currently serving in the US Air Force in Aviano, Italy; Three great-grandchildren; Ari, Eva Grace and Alba Hunt of Jacksonville, Florida; One brother, William “Junior” Hunt (Brenda) of Lauderdale County, Alabama; Four sisters, Stella Pruitt, Lorene Roberts, Dorothy Ellison and Sandra Trousdale, all of Lauderdale County area. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Thomas worked at Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria, Illinois, as a Machinist for most of his professional life, retiring in 1987. He embarked on a second career as a barber and as a motor coach driver. In life, Thomas was a biblical scholar and devout man of God. He was a well-loved Christian, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Thomas enjoyed playing guitar and singing. He was a great storyteller, sharing anecdotes about his past and experiences with anyone that would listen. For 24 years he carried the torch as “Patriarch” of the Hunt family. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
