George Souders age 71 of Ramer, TN, was born on Feburary 23, 1945 in Peoria, IL, the first of twin sons born to Jay B. and Irma D. Yocum Souders. He departed this life on April 17, 2016 in Corinth, Mississippi
George received his BSA from Austin Peay State University. After graduation, in 1968 he became the principal of the Rose Creek, TN community school. He taught in many different schools over the next several years. When George taught in Lexington, TN, he received Teacher of the Year Award and then soon after received the TN Artist -In- Residence Award. He received his Masters from Memphis State University. This was the first year they offered the graduate program. After graduation, George worked on the river to pay off his schooling for a while before moving to New York. NY is where he worked for B. Dalton Book Sellers. Being the decision maker and achiever George was he climbed the corporate ladder very quickly. In 1984, he came back to McNairy County, TN to help with iling family members. After his mother’s death, George starting teaching at McNairy Central High School where he started the school paper. He had taught for over 30 years and has always had a passion for teaching. Art was always very important to him. He was also the first director for the McNairy County Hee Haw Show. George was currently teaching classes at UT Martin.
He is survived by his father, Jay Souders of Ramer, TN; two nephews, two great nephews and one great niece; and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, brothers, and many nieces and nephews.
