A sixth generation Mooresvillian, Mr. McCrary was born on March 1, 1941 in Rockwood, Tennessee, but moved soon after with his parents back to his mother’s home in Mooresville, AL. After graduating from The McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN, he received a BS Degree from the University of Alabama where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. An avid tennis player, Mac was a founding member of the Decatur Tennis Association. He entertained many friends on his red clay tennis court in Mooresville, and, after he could not play anymore, he enjoyed watching his Sunday afternoon group of friends play. Mac loved to travel, and he and his wife Shirley enjoyed traveling with friends to many countries. Other favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing, which he shared with his son, son-in-law, and grandchildren. His easy-going and kind nature will be missed by all who knew him.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice of North Alabama for their support and compassion, and to Right at Home for providing five and a half years of loyalty and personal care to Mac at home. Caregivers include Christy Thomas, Perry Hawkins, Monize Boyden, Melissa Houghton, Cash McCullough, and Christy McDonald. Appreciation is also expressed to Julie Stewart of CenterWell Home Health, and to Christi Rippen and Amy Chaffee. Also, the devoted care given by Halee Garlen will always be remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Historic Mooresville Preservation Fund, P.O. Box 42, Mooresville, AL 35649, or to a charitable organization of your choice.
