George I. (Pete) Burnette,69, departed this life on Tuesday, January 27, 2015. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on October 20, 1945, the son of the late George Ira Burnette, Jr. and Virginia Estelle Herron Burnette.
Pete had a love for aviation. He joined the United States Air Force in 1963 as an air traffic controller. His service took him to many locations during the Vietnam War, one being Southeast Asia. He was honorably discharged in 1971, but continued his aviation career as an air traffic controller with Federal Aviation Administration. He had also been a pilot and a pilot instructor. Outside of aviation, Pete loved fishing, golfing, boating, and he was a member of the Moose Lodge. He retired from Valero Refinery in Memphis, Tennessee.
He is survived by his daughter, LeAnn G. Swan of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; sister, Ellen F. Burnette (Don) of Memphis, Tennessee; brother, David L. Burnette (Daneise) of Germantown, Tennessee; friend and soulmate, Anita Mosier; extended family, Brittany and Brandon Leckner, Bailey, and Blair.
