Reverend , age 92, passed away Dec. 9, 2013.
Interment services were conducted at Greenview Memorial Park Dec. 12, 2013.
The Rev. Warren was born Aug. 4, 1921, to Claude Reedy and Hugh Edge Warren, in Spring Garden, Ala. where he graduated from high school then attended Auburn University before enlisting in the U.S. Army, 1942.
He married Mary Frances Lockridge, of Rock Run, Ala., on July 24, 1943. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family this summer.
The Rev. Warren served in World War II in North Africa, Italy and Okinawa. He received his B.S. degree in Secondary Education from Jacksonville State Teachers College and M.S. degree from Auburn University. The Rev. Warren accepted the call to ministry in the Cumberland Presbyterian (CP) Church receiving his theological and ministerial training at Memphis Theological Seminary, Bethel College and Birmingham-Southern College.
The Rev. Warren’s pastorate included Forrest Avenue CP Church, Gadsden, Ala., Kosciusko, Miss., and First CP Church, Florence, Ala. He retired in 1986 after serving 22 years in Florence. During retirement, he served as interim pastor for neighboring communities. With a servant’s heart, he always felt privileged to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ serving as chaplain for the Allegro Motorhome Club and in Saudi Arabia while visiting his son and family. He served on the Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home Board of Directors, Denton, Texas, and was recognized as a perpetual member on his 90th birthday.
He has baptized believers in the Jordan River and nurtured the faithful, living his Christian faith by example. Following the Lord’s command to “Love one another as I have loved You”, his life encourages us to do likewise.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, George H. Warren Jr.; brother, Fred Warren; sister, Eugenia Tennant; nephew, Larry Warren; and grandson, Timothy Manatt.
He is survived by wife, Frances; children, Sam Warren (Susan) and Susie Lynn (Jeff); daughter-in-law, Anni Warren Walker (William Walker); grandchildren, Peter Warren (Allison), Katherine Warren, Amanda Warren, and Jacob and Claudia Lynn; great- grandchildren, Hugh and Charles Warren; nephews, James Warren and Michael Tennant; and granddaughter-in-law, Leah Chandler. Deborah Trevino was a loving caregiver, and the Warren Family extends her their gratitude.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 on Dec. 28, 2013, at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Florence, Ala. Pastors Dwayne McDuff, Don Thomas, JB Burns and Dwayne Tyus are officiating.
