George Harris – Obituary

georgeA Celebration of Life for George Harris, formerly of Town Creek, will be noon Saturday at Macedonia M.B. Church in Town Creek with inhumation to follow in Wash Chilla Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. The family will receive friends on today from 5 to 6 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Mr. Harris was born Feb. 22, 1950 in Town Creek to the late George Edward and the late Patsy L. Madden Harris. He was called home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2016 in Fresno, Texas, surrounded by his family.
George accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Macedonia M.B. Church. Upon moving to Flint, he united with First Trinity M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Pastor F.O. Hockinhull, where he served faithfully and enjoyed the Host and Hostess Ministry.
He received his formal education in Town Creek and after relocating to Flint, Michigan, he graduated from Flint Central High School. He later earned his journeyman plumber and pipefitter license from Mott Community College through Local 370 in Flint. He worked for Local 370 for ten years before going to work for General Motors- Buick Division where he worked for 25 years until his retirement in 2013.
On Feb. 5, 1972, George married Carolyn Jones. They were married for 37 years and to that union, four children were born, who he loved dearly. He loved life and enjoyed sitting and talking with his family, friends and working in his yard and garden.
He is survived by two daughters, Vita Lashawn (Orenthal) Watkins of Toledo, Ohio and Kara (Steven) Harris of Houston, Texas; two sons, George, II (Aleisha) and Stephen (Tiffany) Harris of Houston, Texas; three grandsons, Trevyan II, Tyrese and Trelyn; two sisters, Edna Fitzgerald Jackson of California and Annie (Bobby) Shackleford of Alabama; aunts, Hattie Sanders, Ruby (Matthew) Torain, Letha M. Madden, Fannie Mae Madden and Nancy Harris, all of Alabama; two uncles, Percy (Dessie) Harris and Levon (Barbara) Harris of Alabama; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stephen and Florine Jones; three brothers-in-law, Matthew (Bettye) Savage, Clifford Jones and Preston (Renee) Jones; three sisters-in-law, Janice (Michael) Martin Lougirtha (O’neal) (Emma) Childress and Leon and Jocelyn Musc; special friends, Willie (Sarah) Ranier, Dennis Musc, Farmon (Emma) Childress and Leon McChester and family; along with many other relatives and friends.
